Traveling with Sensitive Skin

For those with sensitive skin, bringing the right toiletries along when traveling can mean the difference between an enjoyable vacation and one covered in an itchy skin rash. Luckily, we have a few tips, tricks and travel size toiletries for sensitive skin to ensure your allergies don’t become your most memorable vacation experience.

1 . Know your skin sensitivities

Only you know what types of products irritate your skin and scalp. Think about the types of sensitive skin products you typically use in a day – the special items you substitute for products made without chemical irritants. Make a list of these items, and pack them in your suitcase. If you use fragrance-free hair products then be sure to pack travel size shampoo and conditioner. If you suffer from eczema, skin ointments such as travel size Vanicream Moisturizing Ointment will be an essential item to toss into your suitcase.

2. Steer clear of airport samples and hotel toiletries

If you have sensitive skin, avoid trying any new lotions or hair care products when on vacation – even if they’re free. Most travel size toiletries are filled with fragrances and other common skin irritants. Stick to familiar products that you know work for your skin type.

3. Apply a skin moisturizer before, during and after your flight

Skin may become dry with prolonged exposure to the filtered air system on the plane. Changes in climate can also dry out pores. Don’t forget to bring along a travel size moisturizer for your hands and body, and a lighter travel size lotion for your face.

4. Bring your own soap

Soap is not an item most people think to bring of when packing for vacation. But, if you have sensitive skin, the fragranced bar soap in the hotel bathroom could bring an unexpected twist to your vacation. Reduce the risk and substitute with a fragrance-free cleansing bar that’s also formulated with skin cream to keep hands moisturized.

5. Don’t forget your sunscreen

Don’t let a sunburn ruin your vacation! Your days will probably include a lot of outdoor activities and your sensitive skin needs protection from the sun. Use a broad-spectrum, mineral-based sunscreen.
